Future of Indian Politics
When we talk for Indian politics often we see it after the independence and perhaps it is the right perspective to see it. On This basis if we try to read the politics of next decade the we need to take in to account the role of major components of Indian politics and their place in society as well.
After the independence of country in political arena there was no political power except of Congress but with the prism of society and literature this independence was half hearted and was not absolute in their definition and due to this the famous Hindi poet and person close to Congress party shri Ramdhari Singh Dinkar wrote an epic called “ Parashuram ki Pratishka” and in this epic he called for the nation to be prepare for the changes in future and later on it was known that he was the inspirational force behind the mass movement of 1970’s .
It proves that however Congress was politically powerful before independence and after but other forces were also in the existence and main political force which was occupying the space of opposition was Jansngh although it was not decisive in political stature but its mother organization Rastriya Swayam Sewak sangh was socially more powerful and before it Arya Samaj was very relevant force and more of the congress people had the background of Arya Samaj and because of their background they had been able to made them acceptable in social and political life. When things started to change since 1925 Rastriya Swayamsevak Sangh became the representative of Hindu nationalism. Communists and socialists also have the some role and space in Indian politics as well.
So we could say that there were four components in Indian politics Congress, Hindu nationalists, Communists and Socialists. If we try to define the political term right and left in Indian context it is not as relevant as it is in global context however this exported term has been used so much to define the Indian politics.
In last two decades major changes have happened in Indian politics and they are really important and relevant.
The aspirations for change which erupted in 1970’s could not be managed and channelized by nationalists and socialists so people again supported the movements which begin with anti congress sentiments in 90’s as pivotal force but which later grows with religious symbols and people whole heartedly supported it as the final culmination of their aspirations for total freedom . In the mean time Indian politics witnessed lot of ups and down and with all of this the second decade of 21st century shows us very gloomy picture of our polity. In present circumstances Congress party has become as status quo political force and unable carry the aspirations of the people of the change and with the decay in communist ideology and erosion in socialist leadership the whole scenario is full of political vacuum. One of the main reasons behind this situation is the growing erosion of those forces which have been identified as the representatives of Hindu nationalism.
In the mean time globalization and liberalization has created a new middle class which is keen to become part of power structure with its aspirations and own agenda. This Middle class is totally confused as its professional and economic constrains along with propaganda has made it so helpless that it is unable to put and present itself and its conservative, religious , cultural and spiritual personality and aspirations. In this scenario it is important question to raise that which type of politics India needs.
In present circumstances the total population can be divided in four parts. The population which have born in last two decades and those who make up between 16 to 22 years. Population of those people who fall between 22 to 35 years. Population of people between 35 to 50 years and those are above 50 years.
According to our facility we have categorized this population. The population which fall between 16 to 22 years can be called fun society as for them every issue is fun they enjoy their life with cricket, movie, Pepsi, Cola , Pizza , Berger , Dating and they need everything to be presented before them in very light way as part of their fun.
The second part is population of the people between 22to 35 years and it can be named as flying society because they are running and flying because of their dream, burden and aspirations they spend their most of the day in commuting the trains and metros or flying. They need to be adjusted with their aspirations. They look for new system which could provide them more mental, physical and economic stability and solace.
Third segment of the population is the people those who fall between 35 to 50 years and it could be called future vision society because they are worried for the future of their and their next generation. They are worried for the education of their next generation, its sanskar, house , their own home , savings for the future and they are more keen to give the shape to the future of the nation because they club the future of their generations with nation and society. It is important to put the issues before them in very serious and useful manners because some of them are unable to adjust with fast growing idioms and methods and this is the reason why they have become silent and introvert. To make things easy for them the idioms of traditional communication required as literature and art. It has been found that although people of this section of age group use the new methods but they are not more serious about online or other new methods and they want more serious efforts. One more important thing about this section of people is that most of them are in the phase of transition as their past ideology has become irrelevant or on the path of erosion and they are not able to find any new alternative ideology so they want something new and dynamic.
Wait and watch society is made of the people of above 50 years who are so much scared and feels alienated with fast growing changes in everywhere they are unable to identify their role in present scenario . They are also concerned with value based and ideology based politics.
Any way we can say that Indian politics is going through the transition phase and everyone is looking for the new ideology and this new ideology should be the extension of sanatan tradition .
Indian Politics in Global context
As we have mentioned above that division of right and left is not accurate in Indian context. This division came in to existence when French revolution took place and first parliament sat and in that composition which party sit which side had been named according to that. In this context if we see the politics of west we can say that right means those who approves the role of institutional religion in politics, gives more importance to military and always eager to take the help of military in clashes and nourishes the free market economy to minimize the role of state in economic affairs and everything will be rested upon the market to decide. On the contrary left means the issues of humanitarian and public affairs will be raised and state would have more roles for the public. The left in western context also maintains that nationalism is not good and particularly in Europe they want state to be almost impotent.
If we tend to see the politics in global perspective we can witness a new phenomenon. Before second world war fascist and communist forces had joined the hands and this alliance of extreme left and right had made the second world war inevitable but in present circumstances we can see that moderate right and moderate left are coming together on the issues of human welfare.
We have seen the coalition in Britain which is working on this pattern and this phenomenon is also visible in other parts of the western countries as well. In presidential elections of France we have witnessed how right and left come together to insure the win of socialist leader after one and half decade.
This global phenomenon proves that present political climate is not conducive for the fundamentalist politics although fundamentalist forces always have their say but they are relevant only to a limited way. As in some of the western countries anti immigration political parties are emerging and blocking the road of mainstream right wing political parties to muster the majority but they are not able to win on their own and they are exploring the way to come in coalition with left and socialist parties.
In present circumstances if we correlate the global politics in Indian context we can find it easily that in Indian context right wing politics defines the Hindu nationalist politics because the identity of nation, security of the borders, role of spiritualism in politics all are the component of right wing politics and those issues which are being defined as left are decentralization of politics, decentralization of capital , free market should not be allowed to crush the human civilization and lust should not be the sole criteria for market economy . In Indian context we see that all these issues have always been the part of Indian ethos and time needs to redefine the politics and break the divide of right and left to make our polity coherent to our spiritual values.
Nowadays when Communism and socialism is on the path of fast erosion and Congress has become the status quo political force people are unable to connect their aspirations with these forces and it provides an unique opportunity for a broader Hindu nationalist coalition which could comprise of right, moderate right, fundamentalists, humanitarian and old socialists and all of these forces should get united under the slogan of spiritual politics.
